Vista Murrieta Beats Great Oak to Win the Southwestern League Championship

Alesia Denby’s Dramatic Homerun Wins it in Extra Innings

The battle for the Southwestern League Softball Championship was decided in extra innings Wednesday afternoon. Vista Murrieta’s Alesia Denby’s dramatic walk off Homerun in the bottom of the eighth inning broke the tie and brought home the Title, 

It was the teams first Championship since the 2011-12 season under Dan Torres. The Wolfpack was last years Champion.

 

“This was a great team win” said rookie coach Kathryn Terrazas . “We played solidly and knew it was going to be our toughest game of the season. It was great gift to the seniors on their senior day, but it was a great day for all of us. It’s a great day to be a Bronco”

 

 

Shealyn Ollison was the winning pitcher for the Broncos. She lasted all 8 innings and gave up 5 hits and 4 runs. She survived Kayla Greens solo blast in the second and a third inning Great Oak rally. Cecilia Winters and Kayla Edwards singled, Serena Quinatasacraficed bunted and Mata Faapito hard grounder to left field brought in 2 runs.

The Broncos Brie Nowak scored twice while Amani Bradley and Morgan Powell each scored during regulation play. With the score deadlocked at 4 each in the eight, the Broncos Denby connected for a two run homerun off of Great Oak’s Mata Faapito to win it all. Denby finished with 2 hits and 3 RBIs. 

The two teams will lock horns again on Friday.With the Championship decided the two teams are getting ready for the upcoming CIF Southern Section Playoffs.
